Today we are celebrating International Youth Day which highlights the vital role young minds have in shaping the future of global connectivities.

In Airbus Secure Communications, our employees work hand in hand to better understand our customer needs in connectivity. Sharing perspectives and ideas across generations promotes creativity and progress. In this article we introduce how intergenerational teams work within Airbus Secure Communications.

Origins of International Youth Day

This day recognises young people's voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful engagement. The United Nations General Assembly approved the establishment of International Youth Day in 1999, following a suggestion from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth.

Since then, each year the world shows its support by recognizing the potential of youth in today’s global society through different themes chosen by the United Nations. A day where governments, civil society, individuals and communities worldwide are called to support activities at local and international levels to mark the day.

Our mission for the next generation

We acknowledge our responsibility to encourage the next generation and provide opportunity for growth and development which shapes not only their future, but our future. The Airbus Foundation reaches thousands of young people every year and aims to inspire and nurture a curiosity to learn, covering topics such as space, aeronautics along with science, technology, engineering and math.

Young people bring fresh perspective, boundless creativity and passion for innovation through our graduate programmes, apprenticeships and internships. They bring positive change to our business and we are proud to participate in their journey.

Our Actions

‘Generation Airbus’ is an initiative focused on building our internal community. Activities and gatherings allow newcomers and long-term employees to create bonds which leads to greater integration and cohesion within teams. Opportunities such as ‘Sail For Competence’ provide interns, graduates and trainees with once-in-a-lifetime experiences. This event brings together employees from Germany, UK, France and Spain as they sail from Germany to Denmark. Participants describe this experience as ‘unforgettable’.

Our trainees, graduates, interns and juniors are making an impact by working on various projects including Multi Domain Smart Connectivity like Carl Hallam, Solution Manager and Christina Menking Sales Manager, former graduate and intern.

The younger Generation is helping us to deliver the right solutions and services to meet customers' operational needs in secure communications.

By working all together, we believe every generation can benefit from the strengths of each other and share views and perspectives. Our goal is to make a positive social impact, starting with our teams.

To illustrate this, we asked our colleagues for their views on an intergenerational workplace:
