In light of the ongoing concerns about Coronavirus across the world we are very conscious that military personnel on deployment are keener than ever to keep in touch with family and friends back home, Airbus Defence and Space are at least doubling the Wi-Fi welfare X-Band bandwidth to each of the seven deployed platforms.

The increase in bandwidth, which has been carried out this week, will remain in place for the next six months bringing the ships company greater opportunity to use services like video calling and streaming of video channels,  adding real benefit to the morale of the Royal Navy personnel which are deployed around the globe on patrol, sea trials or training exercises.

This is additional bandwidth to the operational Skynet 5 X-Band utilised by the Royal Navy.

The service uses Skynet 5 X-Band, which is a service managed and operated by Airbus to deliver trusted end-to-end services since 2003 for the UK MOD.
