On-board demonstrations to further prover higher capacity secure connectivity to the UK aircraft carriers

Following successful land based demonstrations before Christmas, Airbus Secure Communications has now successfully completed demonstrations using the SCOT installation on board HMS Queen Elizabeth.

The demonstration and testing which took place at the homeport of HMS Queen Elizabeth, HMNB Portsmouth, and achieved data rates of 85Mb/s using a 2.2m SCOT terminal being tested over a Skynet 5 X-Band satellite link.

Richard Budd, head of business for Secure Communications in the UK said: 

“It is a great demonstration of what can be achieved through Skynet to support the QE Carrier Strike Group at high capacity. Huge thanks to all of the teams involved from both Airbus and the MOD to make these trials a success, we look forward to continue to work in partnership with our customer to deliver an assured level of service for the future”
