Extra Talk Time for UK Deployed Troops this Christmas
Deployed personnel who are away from friends and family received a special present this Christmas – additional talk time, completely free.
Over the last 20 years, Airbus has delivered six hundred million global minutes through the UK #welfare service WelComE, which allows operational troops to keep in regular contact with loved ones at home.
To spread some much-needed festive cheer, last month the standard weekly talk time for each user was doubled by the MOD over the Christmas week, and then doubled again by Airbus Defence and Space the following week to help bring in the New Year.
Richard Budd, head of Airbus Secure Communications UK & US said; “It’s a pleasure to be able to work alongside the UK MOD and provide an extra boost to deployed troops over the festive period. Welfare services are a key element in boosting morale and Airbus is proud to be able to support this by delivering WelComE services to the UK MOD year round.”
Welfare Communications Everywhere or WelComE is a welfare communications service provided by Airbus Defence and Space to the UK MOD for the benefit of deployed personnel and their loved ones.
Since the contract began over 20 years ago, the service has been delivered in a number of operational environments and has evolved over the years to continue to meet changing requirements. These upgrades and expansions have grown the service from its original provision of telephony to where it is today – with deployed personnel now able to remain securely connected with family and friends via capabilities such as Wi-Fi and video calling on operational bases.
